Making Life Easier with Google Wallet
Google Wallet now allows you to scan physical cards to create digital versions, making it easier to access passes, library cards, insurance slips, and gym memberships on your phone. This feature is currently available in the US.
Double-Checking Permissions
Android will introduce a new Restricted Settings system that will require users to grant an extra layer of approval before granting permissions to apps installed from outside the Google Play Store.
Anti-Theft Safeguards
Google has introduced new AI-powered theft detection features that will automatically lock the phone if it detects suspicious movement. Additionally, stolen devices will require the original owner’s Google account credentials to set up, making them unusable for thieves.
Fraud Prevention
Android will use AI to detect and warn users of potentially fraudulent apps based on their activity and device permissions. Google and partner device manufacturers will also enable live threat detection to identify suspicious behaviors in real-time.
Private Space
Android 15 will introduce Private Space, a password-protected folder that allows users to hide sensitive apps from the app library and drawer for added security.
Keeping One-Time Passwords Safe
To prevent unauthorized access, Android will no longer display OTPs (one-time passwords) in notification banners. Additionally, notifications containing OTPs or sensitive data will be hidden during screen sharing.
Call and Network Safety
Google is introducing Cellular Cypher Transparency to alert users of unencrypted networks, which can compromise call and messaging security. Additionally, high-risk individuals will receive alerts if their location is being tracked by surveillance tools or spyware.
Other Android 15 Features
Google has also released the second beta update of Android 15, expanding beta testing to non-Pixel smartphones. Other Android 15 features include native taskbar pinning, split-screen app pairs, dynamic panes for foldable and tablet devices, and support for new data types in Health Connect.
