Angelina Jolie has revealed that she and her 16-year-old daughter Vivienne have gotten matching tattoos. The tattoos, which say ‘Stay Gold,’ are a tribute to the iconic phrase from the film and stage adaptation of ‘The Outsiders.’
Jolie recently produced the Broadway adaptation of ‘The Outsiders,’ based on S.E. Hinton’s novel and Francis Ford Coppola’s 1983 film. The production won Tony Awards for Best Musical and Best Direction, and Jolie has credited Vivienne as an inspiration for bringing the story to the stage.
The phrase ‘Stay Gold’ is a recurring theme in the film and play, and is even featured in a song in the musical. Jolie first revealed her ‘Stay Gold’ tattoo on the red carpet at the play’s opening night in April, showcasing the ink on the inside of her left arm. She mentioned at the time that she had gotten the tattoo with the play’s director, Danya Taymor, and composer, Justin Levine. However, she has now confirmed that Vivienne also has the same tattoo.
This isn’t the first time Jolie has gotten a tattoo with her children. The actress, who has six children with ex-husband Brad Pitt – Maddox (23), Pax (20), Zahara (19), Shiloh (18), and twins Knox and Vivienne (16) – has a tattoo on her upper arm that features the latitude and longitude of her children’s birthplaces. At the Tony Awards, Jolie was spotted with a new chest tattoo of a bird, and according to Page Six, several of her children also have the same motif. Fans noticed that Shiloh has a similar bird tattoo, sparking conversation on social media.
Jolie’s latest tattoo further demonstrates the strong bond she shares with her children, and serves as a lasting reminder of the importance of the ‘Stay Gold’ message.
