Angry Birds’ Success Thwarts ‘The Nice Guys’ Sequel

In a recent interview, Ryan Gosling revealed the unfortunate fate of ‘The Nice Guys’ sequel, blaming its failure on the release of ‘The Angry Birds Movie.’ The highly anticipated sequel to the 2016 Shane Black-directed comedy was reportedly in the works, but its release date coincided with that of ‘Angry Birds.’ As Gosling explained to Comic Book, the timing proved disastrous for ‘The Nice Guys.’

On its opening weekend, ‘The Angry Birds Movie’ soared at the box office, earning an impressive $38 million compared to ‘The Nice Guys’ modest $11.2 million. The disparity in earnings effectively sealed the fate of the ‘The Nice Guys’ sequel, as Gosling noted, “So much of a sequel, I think, is decided by the opening weekend of a movie, and we opened up against Angry Birds.”

Despite its box office struggles, ‘The Nice Guys’ has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal following. Josh Homme, frontman of Queens Of The Stone Age, has praised the film, describing it as “so funny” and reminiscent of the classic Abbott and Costello comedy duo.

While ‘The Nice Guys’ sequel may have fallen victim to the box office success of ‘Angry Birds’, Ryan Gosling’s recent appearances at the Oscars and ‘Saturday Night Live’ have showcased his versatility and talent. His performance of “I’m Just Ken” with Mark Ronson and Slash was a highlight of the Oscars, and his skit with Emily Blunt on ‘SNL’ further demonstrated his comedic chops.
