Animal’s Acclaim, Director’s Mixed Feelings, and Adil Hussain’s ‘Kabir Singh’ Regret

Ranbir Kapoor’s cinematic masterpiece, ‘Animal’, has left an indelible mark on the film industry, continuing to garner accolades and captivate audiences well after its release three months ago. The film’s groundbreaking success at the box office remains a testament to its enduring appeal. In a recent interview with Firstpost, the film’s director shared his complex emotions regarding the project, confessing to a mix of enjoyment and distaste while watching it.

Seasoned actor Adil Hussain, known for his critically acclaimed performances in films such as ‘Taare Zameen Par’, ‘Life of Pi’, and ‘English Vinglish’, made startling revelations about his involvement in the 2019 blockbuster ‘Kabir Singh’, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani. Hussain’s statements did not sit well with the film’s director, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who swiftly fired back.

On the YouTube channel AP Podcast, Hussain stated, ‘That’s the only film in my life that I have done without reading the script, without seeing the movie which it is based on. I regret it till today. The only movie I have regretted doing is that film… Kabir Singh.’

Vanga took to social media, sharing the interview video with a scathing comment: ‘Ur ‘belief’ in 30 art films didn’t get as much fame to u as ur ‘regret’ of 1 BLOCKBUSTER film did. I regret casting u, knowing that ur greed is bigger than ur passion. NOW I’ll save U from the shame by replacing Ur face with AI help. Now smile properly.’ Notably, ‘Kabir Singh’, which emerged as Shahid Kapoor’s biggest career hit, was a remake of the Telugu film ‘Arjun Reddy’. Both ‘Arjun Reddy’ and ‘Kabir Singh’ were helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who extended his blockbuster streak with his recent directorial venture, ‘Animal’, featuring Ranbir Kapoor.

Adil Hussain’s upcoming film, ‘Ulajh’, stars Janhvi Kapoor and Gulshan Devaiah. The film follows the journey of a young diplomat from a distinguished patriotic family who finds herself entangled in a dangerous personal conspiracy far from home while navigating a pivotal career post.
