In a recent interview with V Magazine, Anne Hathaway recounted a distressing experience she faced during a chemistry read for a role in the 2000s. The actress was instructed to kiss 10 male actors, an act that left her feeling disgusted. Despite her discomfort, Hathaway pretended to be excited, fearing that expressing her true feelings would lead to her being labeled as difficult to work with.
Hathaway emphasized that this practice was common in the entertainment industry at the time, stating, “It wasn’t a power play, no one was trying to be awful or hurt me. It was just a very different time and now we know better.”
The actress shared that for her upcoming film, “The Idea Of You,” she worked on her chemistry reads in a different way. Instead of kissing, she and her co-star danced together. Hathaway explained, “I was sitting in a chair like we had come in from dinner or a walk or something, we pressed play, and we just started dancing together.”
“The Idea Of You” is based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Robinne Lee. It follows a 40-year-old single mom played by Hathaway who falls for a 24-year-old international pop star played by Nicholas Galitzine. The film is scheduled for a streaming release on Amazon Prime Video on May 2nd.
