Annual ‘Drive Less Connecticut’ Campaign Kicks Off for Earth Day

’Drive Less Connecticut’ Campaign Encourages Climate Action

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) is launching its annual ‘Drive Less Connecticut Climate Challenge’ from Earth Day (April 22) to May 31 to combat climate change.

The campaign aims to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions, primarily caused by private vehicles, by promoting alternative transportation options. Participants can use the CTrides app to track their progress and contribute to the collective goal of eliminating 425,000 pounds of emissions, 30,000 car trips, and 480,000 miles driven by single-occupant vehicles.

New Feature: Tree Planting Initiative

This year, the campaign has partnered with One Tree Planted to plant 10 trees for every 30 car trips eliminated, up to 1,000 trees total, across the United States to enhance air quality.

Prizes and Incentives

Participants recording their trips on the CTrides app can win prizes. The app also provides a trip planner with travel options throughout Connecticut.

Benefits of Reducing Emissions

The Drive Less Connecticut Climate Challenge supports the state’s goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 45% by 2030 and 80% by 2050. Residents are encouraged to join the campaign and contribute to fighting the climate crisis by driving less and adopting greener transportation methods.
