French forward Antoine Griezmann has announced his retirement from international football, bringing an end to a glittering career with Les Bleus. The Atletico Madrid star, who boasts an impressive 137 caps and 44 goals for his country, leaves behind a legacy that includes a World Cup title, a UEFA Nations League trophy, and numerous individual accolades.
Griezmann’s most significant achievement came in 2018 when he lifted the World Cup in Russia, playing a pivotal role in France’s victory. He also added the 2021 UEFA Nations League title to his resume, leading France to a 2-1 victory over Spain in the final.
Griezmann expressed his gratitude for his time with the French national team, saying, “It is with a heart full of memories that I close this chapter of my life. Thank you for this magnificent tricolour adventure, and see you soon.”
He made his senior debut for France in 2014, playing 68 minutes in a friendly match against the Netherlands. Prior to that, he represented France at the U-19, U-20, and U-21 levels.
Griezmann’s individual honors with France include the French Player of the Year award (2016), the FIFA World Cup Bronze Ball (2018), the FIFA World Cup Silver Boot (2018), and the FIFA World Cup top assist provider (2022).
While Griezmann’s departure marks the end of an era for French football, his contributions to the national team will be remembered for generations to come.
