Antstream Arcade, a subscription service that provides access to over 1,300 licensed retro games, is making its way to iOS and iPadOS on June 27th. This announcement comes on the heels of Apple’s recent changes to iOS, prompted by the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), which allows users to download apps from third-party app stores and streaming platforms. This opened the door for video game emulators to become available on the App Store, with Delta Game emulator being one of the first to gain popularity.
Antstream Arcade distinguishes itself from emulators by being a streaming platform, eliminating the need for users to find and manage games themselves. While access comes with a subscription fee, Antstream offers a curated library of games from various classic consoles like the Amiga, Atari 2600, PlayStation 1, and SNES. The platform also features challenges and tournaments that allow users to compete against each other, adding a social element to the retro gaming experience.
Following its launch on the App Store, Antstream Arcade will be available for a limited time at $4 per month or $30 per year. After this introductory period, the subscription price will increase to $5 per month or $40 per year. This launch signifies a significant development in the world of retro gaming on iOS devices, offering a convenient and accessible way to enjoy classic titles on iPhones and iPads.
