Apple Expands iPhone Production in India, Aims for 50 Million Units Annually
Apple is ramping up its manufacturing operations in India, aiming to produce over 50 million iPhones annually in the country. The move is part of the company’s strategy to diversify its production base beyond China.
India has emerged as a major hub for mobile manufacturing, with Apple’s ecosystem contributing significantly to job creation in the sector. Over 1.5 lakh people are directly employed in Apple’s ecosystem, and the government expects this number to grow exponentially in the future.
The iPhone factories in India are set to hire over 10,000 people directly during the peak June-September period. Apple is reportedly in advanced talks with Tata Group’s Titan Company and Murugappa Group to assemble sub-components for phone camera modules.
The company’s increased investments in India align with the government’s goal of making the country a global manufacturing hub. The growth of mobile phone production in India over the past decade has been described as an unmatched success story in the manufacturing sector.
In FY24, the production of iPhones in India exceeded Rs 1 lakh crore, with 70 percent of the units being exported. The total market value of the iPhone production in India stands at Rs 1.6 lakh crore, highlighting the significant contribution of Apple to the Indian economy.
