Apple Refines Flashlight Interface in iOS 18 Beta 3

Apple continues to fine-tune its built-in flashlight experience in iOS 18, with the latest beta update, iOS 18 beta 3, bringing further enhancements to the flashlight interface. According to TechCrunch, the new design now incorporates a curved line that visually represents both the beam’s width and brightness. Additionally, a dotted, curved line at the top of the interface indicates the flashlight’s peak intensity mark. These latest tweaks to the flashlight are subtle, and their inclusion in the final release of iOS 18 remains uncertain. However, they signify Apple’s ongoing efforts to revitalize a feature that debuted back in 2013.

In earlier versions of iOS, users had the ability to adjust the brightness levels of their iPhone’s flashlight. With the arrival of iOS 15, the functionality was expanded to include beam pattern adjustments, allowing users to widen or narrow the flashlight’s beam. For iPhone users running iOS 18, the flashlight icon is conveniently located within the Control Center. Tapping on it reveals a user-friendly interface with a prominent flashlight icon positioned at the top center of the screen. From this interface, users can effortlessly adjust the light’s brightness level and, now, its radius.

If you’re eager to try out the new flashlight tool and other features introduced in iOS 18, you can install the current beta version on your supported iPhone. However, it’s important to remember that we’re only on the third beta release of iOS 18, and more betas are expected to be released before the official version arrives, likely in September. Beta releases may contain incomplete features and may encounter bugs. Apple advises against installing iOS 18 on your primary iPhone. If you’d prefer to wait, it’s recommended to install iOS 18 once the first public beta is released, which is anticipated to happen shortly. Apple unveiled iOS 18 at last month’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) alongside iPadOS 18, watchOS 11, visionOS 2, and macOS 15 Sequoia.
