Apple Starts Working on iOS 19, Even Before iOS 18 is Released

Apple is always pushing the boundaries of technology, and their upcoming iOS 19 software update is no exception. Even before the public release of iOS 18, Apple is already hard at work on the next iteration, set to be announced next June. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple developers are actively working on the 2025 operating systems for their flagship products, each with an internal code name. The next version of iOS is dubbed ‘Luck,’ while macOS 16 goes by ‘Cheer.’ watchOS 12 is known as ‘Nepali,’ and visionOS 3 is ‘Discovery.’ Naturally, iPadOS 19 is also in development.

It’s not surprising that Apple is already focusing on next year’s software. As Gurman explains, Apple is concurrently developing their hardware for next year’s releases. Therefore, it’s logical that they would be simultaneously working on the accompanying software for testing and compatibility. While it’s still early to know the specifics of these new features, leaks are sure to emerge in the coming months.

In the present day, third-party developers are testing the second beta version of iOS 18. Public beta testers will likely join the testing process soon with the first iOS 18 public beta. The official release of iOS 18 is expected in early September, coinciding with the launch of the iPhone 16 series.

Apple’s iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and other upcoming OS versions introduce several new features, starting with Apple Intelligence. This foray into AI brings with it promising new tools designed to enhance the user experience. These include upgrades to writing capabilities, communication tools, image creation features, Siri enhancements, and more. The iOS 18 update also offers increased home page customization options, a revamped Control Center, a refined Photos app, and other improvements.
