Apple Vision Pro Production Cut Amid Lower Demand

Apple is facing challenges with its Vision Pro mixed-reality headset, with reports indicating a significant cut in production due to lower than anticipated demand. The company had initially projected shipments of 700,000–800,000 units, but recent estimates have reduced this figure to 400,000-450,000 units. This suggests a lack of enthusiasm in the U.S. market, as shipments have been slashed ahead of the Vision Pro’s launch in other countries.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has reported that the company is reassessing its roadmap for the Vision Pro and may reconsider releasing a more affordable model in 2025. Kuo also predicts that shipments of the device will decline year-on-year in 2025.

The Vision Pro, which debuted in February, drew attention for its hefty price tag and was met with mixed reviews. IGN’s review acknowledged the device’s uncomfortable fit and disappointing battery life but also hailed it as a glimpse into the future of computing.

The Vision Pro launched with a selection of streaming services, including Disney+, Crunchyroll, Max, Paramount+, and Prime Video. However, Netflix currently lacks a native app for the device, forcing subscribers to access their accounts through a web browser.

Apple is known for its innovative products, but the Vision Pro seems to have stumbled in the market. The production cut and potential cancellation of a cheaper model suggest that Apple needs to refine its strategy for mixed-reality devices.
