Apple’s iPad Lineup Set for Upgrade: Bigger Displays, M3 Chip, and More

Apple recently refreshed its MacBook line, and now it is time for the iPads. Apple is reportedly set to launch four new iPads, including the iPad Pro and iPad Air, with significant upgrades such as bigger displays and a powerful processor– likely the latest M3 chip offering variety for its users. Originally, reports surfaced that Apple would launch the new iPad lineup alongside the MacBook refresh, but there was no official update from Apple on this. However, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, a new refreshed iPad lineup is coming soon, possibly this month. Let’s take a detailed look at everything we know so far about the upcoming iPad lineup from Apple.

Apple is reportedly set to launch four new iPads with significant upgrades, including bigger displays, the latest M3 chip, and more, catering to a broad range of users. These new devices aim to continue enhancing Apple’s tablet offerings with improved performance, display quality, and design features.

As part of the updates, the upcoming iPad Pro lineup is expected to feature OLED screens, offering superior visual experiences with deeper blacks and enhanced contrast. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro may also see an increase in screen size to 13 inches, providing users with a larger workspace.

Additionally, the new iPad Pro models are rumored to be thinner than their predecessors, with a reduction in thickness attributed to the shift to OLED screens. Both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch models are expected to be slimmer.

Performance-wise, the iPad Pro models will reportedly receive an upgrade to the M3 chip, promising better performance and efficiency. While specific details on how iPadOS will utilize this added power are not yet available, hopes are high that Apple will address current limitations on features like Stage Manager.

Other reported updates include a redesigned Magic Keyboard with a sturdier frame and aluminum build, aiming to enhance the iPad Pro’s laptop-like functionality. Additionally, a new Apple Pencil with Find My integration and magnetically swappable tips is said to be in development.

Expanding on the iPad Air lineup, Apple is reportedly introducing a new 12.9-inch model alongside the existing 10.9-inch version. This larger model will reportedly adopt a flat-edged design similar to the iPad Pro, marking the first time the iPad Air offers two display size options.

According to analyst Ross Young, the 12.9-inch iPad Air model may feature a mini-LED screen similar to the previous generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro. This display technology offers improved brightness and contrast compared to LCD.

Other rumored changes for the iPad Air include a redesigned camera bump with a vertical orientation, reminiscent of older iPhone models, and a potential camera flash, hinting at possible new camera capabilities. The front-facing FaceTime camera is also expected to be repositioned to the landscape side, aligning with the user’s view when holding the device in landscape mode or using it with the Magic Keyboard.

Performance-wise, the iPad Air line is rumored to receive either the M2 or M3 chip. However, unlike the iPad Pro, no new Magic Keyboard is expected for the iPad Air.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, ‘The new Magic Keyboard provides another differentiator for the iPad Pro. Apple isn’t planning a new version of that accessory for the iPad Air. The new 12.9-inch model will stick to using the current Magic Keyboard for that screen size.’

The new iPad Pro is anticipated to be introduced this month, with production already underway and a projected late March release. iPad Air models are expected to follow within a few weeks. Pricing information is still uncertain, but rumors suggest a potential $160 increase compared to previous generations. One unverified rumor even hinted at a possible $1,500 starting price for the 11-inch iPad Pro with OLED and a $1,800 starting price for the 12.9-inch version.

It’s important to note that all the aforementioned information is based on leaks and rumors, and official confirmation from Apple is still awaited.
