The 77th Cannes Film Festival commenced from May 14-25, 2024, with a dazzling display of Arab talent and fashion. On the opening day, notable figures graced the red carpet, showcasing exquisite designs from renowned Arab designers.
Lebanese filmmaker and actress Nadine Labaki, selected as one of the esteemed Palme d’Or jury members, made a statement in a sharp Versace jumpsuit and a black power suit complete with a bow tie.
Egyptian icon and Vogue Arabia’s April 2024 cover star Youssra captivated in a sparkling Tony Ward Couture gown adorned with intricate silver and gold embroidery, paired with jewelry by Cartier. Farhana Bodi and Diala Makki opted for muted hues with shimmering embellishments, with Bodi donning a strapless silver gown by Dubai-based Omani brand Atelier Zuhra and Makki sporting a modest caped jumpsuit in a blush pink color by Syrian designer Rami Al Ali.
On the other end of the spectrum, traffic-stopping red gowns proved that the color truly transcends trends. Part-Saudi model Shanina Shaik stunned in a crimson Zuhair Murad gown with a sweetheart neckline and an overskirt, picked from the Lebanese designer’s Fall 2024 collection. Lebanese presenter Raya Abirached and German supermodel Heidi Klum also chose the color, with Abirached wearing a strapless Georges Chakra gown with a thigh-high slit and Klum championing the region in a Saiid Kobeisy couture number.
The timeless appeal of black was evident in the choices of actor and activist Jane Fonda and Saudi entrepreneur Yara Alnamlah. Fonda paid homage to the region in a striking Elie Saab jumpsuit, while Alnamlah was a vision in a custom Rami Kadi gown with a statement gold necklace by Chaumet.
