Arcade Club Bury, Europe’s largest arcade, has been making waves in the film and TV industry. Two of its machines, Star Castle and Missile Command, were recently featured in the new Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire movie. The machines were specifically requested by the film’s bosses to add an authentic 80s touch to the movie, which stars Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace.
Set in New York, the movie features the machines in the converted fire station that the original Ghostbusters used as their headquarters. Daniel Butt, brand manager at Arcade Club, said, “It was specifically these two games they wanted because they were the two games that were in the original films at the fire station HQ of the Ghostbusters. We were approached by the film company who were surprised we had a working copy of Star Castle as it’s a pretty rare machine.”
This isn’t the first time the film industry has come knocking. Arcade Club Bury previously supplied cabinets for Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One and was chosen as a filming location for Netflix’s Fool Me Once, starring Michelle Keegan.
“These ventures have not only showcased Arcade Club’s dedication to preserving the golden era of gaming, but also highlighted the potential of local businesses to contribute significantly to global entertainment industries,” added Daniel.
The machines at Arcade Club Bury span four floors, featuring hundreds of retro and modern machines for visitors to enjoy. Star Castle and Missile Command have now been returned to the venue, which offers various opening hours and ticket prices for kids, adults, and families.
