Argonaut Games Returns with Croc: Legend of the Gobbos Remaster

Argonaut Games, a studio known for pioneering 3D gaming in the 90s with titles like Star Fox and Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, is making a triumphant return after a 20-year absence. The studio, once a prominent name in the gaming industry, had closed its doors in 2004 due to financial difficulties. Now, under the leadership of new CEOs Gary Sheinwald and Mike Arkin, Argonaut Games is back as a “boutique publisher,” poised to revive classic games for a new generation.

The studio’s first venture is a remastered version of Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, originally released for the PlayStation in 1997. The remaster promises to deliver a modernized experience with enhanced 4K visuals and streamlined controls, while retaining the charming and nostalgic gameplay that captivated players in the late 90s. Fans can expect a faithful reimagining of the original, featuring the lovable Croc as he embarks on a quest to save his fellow Gobbos from the clutches of the evil Baron Dante.

Adding to the excitement, the remaster will include an in-game museum called “Crocipedia.” This immersive feature will showcase concept art, animation tests, and interviews with the game’s original developers, providing players with a fascinating glimpse into the creative process behind Croc: Legend of the Gobbos.

Argonaut founder Jez San has expressed his enthusiasm for the studio’s return, highlighting the company’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of gaming. “Argonaut was always about pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in gaming,” San said. “And I’m excited to see how the relaunched Argonaut Games builds on that legacy, starting with the Croc: Legend of the Gobbos remaster.”

While a specific release date hasn’t been announced, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos remaster is expected to launch later this year for PC and consoles. The remaster marks the beginning of a series of remasters of classic Argonaut games, signaling the studio’s dedication to preserving its legacy and bringing beloved titles to a new generation of gamers.
