The Arlington Heights Village Board has granted another six-month extension to Norwood Builders, the developers behind the planned Arlington 425 mixed-use development in downtown Arlington Heights. This marks the second extension granted to the developers, who had requested additional time due to delays in submitting necessary documentation and uploading large files to the village’s new online portal.
The $150 million development, first approved in May 2019, has been in the works for five years and includes three phases. The first phase involves the construction of a 10-story apartment building facing Campbell Street with commercial space on the first floor. The second phase includes a five-story parking garage for Campbell Street residents, while the third phase will feature a five-story apartment building facing single-family homes on Chestnut Avenue.
While financing for the project remains unsecured, developers expressed commitment to moving forward with the project. However, some residents voiced concerns about the pace of progress, citing the numerous modifications and delays that have occurred over the years. The Village Board approved the extension by a 7-0 vote, with Trustees Jim Bertucci and Rich Baldino absent.
The development has been a topic of discussion for several years, with residents and trustees expressing a desire for progress. Developers emphasized their commitment to completing the project and bringing a vibrant mixed-use space to downtown Arlington Heights. Despite the challenges faced, the developers remain optimistic about the project’s potential.
