Feyenoord manager Arne Slot is poised to replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool’s next manager, with the backing of club captain Virgil van Dijk. Van Dijk, who has just over a year remaining on his contract, holds Slot in high regard, stating, “I think Slot is one of the better Dutch coaches at the moment. With the way he plays and the philosophy he has, he can be a Liverpool coach.” Liverpool’s initial offer of £7.7 million (including bonuses) was rejected by Feyenoord, who value Slot at a higher £8.5 million. Slot is keen to bring his assistant coach Sipke Hulshoff and head of performance Ruben Peeters to Anfield, while his assistant trainer John de Wolf is likely to stay at Feyenoord. Liverpool must also address the departures of Pepijn Lijnders, John Achterberg, and Peter Krawietz, among others, from their backroom staff. Negotiations between Slot’s agent and Liverpool are progressing, with face-to-face discussions expected in the near future. Feyenoord director Dennis te Kloese is reportedly in Madrid for other business, but discussions with Liverpool are anticipated in the coming days. Liverpool have four remaining Premier League matches before the end of the season, including trips to West Ham and Aston Villa, and home fixtures against Tottenham and Wolves. Klopp has reportedly had no involvement in the search for his successor, which is being led by Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes.
