Get ready to immerse yourself in a vibrant world of art and creativity! The Arts Council of Henderson County proudly presents the 65th edition of the Art on Main Fine Art + Craft Festival, taking place in the heart of Historic Downtown Hendersonville, NC, on September 28 and 29, 2024. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, the festival promises a captivating experience for art enthusiasts of all ages.
This beloved outdoor arts festival has become a cherished tradition in western North Carolina, drawing in both regional artists and those traveling from as far as Canada. Over 100 talented individuals will showcase their works along Main Street, presenting a stunning array of categories including clay, drawing, fiber, glass, jewelry, metal, mixed media, watercolor, alcohol ink, oil, acrylic, photography, and wood.
Adding to the excitement, a juried competition with $2,000 in awards will highlight the exceptional talent on display. Live demonstrations offer a unique opportunity to witness firsthand the creative processes behind the art, giving visitors an intimate understanding of the artists’ inspirations and techniques.
This year, prepare to be captivated by the debut of Victor Field and Megan Huston of Ataraxia Designs. Their creations embody a philosophy of sustainability and awareness, incorporating natural materials like clay and organic cotton. Their thought-provoking designs incorporate words and poetry, encouraging individuals to reflect, laugh, and connect with one another.
Janet Leazenby, a well-known local clay artist, is returning to the festival, bringing her signature whimsical rabbits. Having worked with clay since her teenage years and honed her skills as a former art teacher, Janet’s unique process infuses her pieces with a sense of movement, evoking organic, lifelike qualities.
The festival’s marketing image for this year, “There is Still Time,” is an acrylic painting by Erika Wilson, a talented artist who divides her time between Asheville, NC, and Salt Lake City, UT. Erika’s work draws inspiration from both natural wilderness and cultivated urban environments, inviting viewers to explore the beauty in the ordinary and to embrace curiosity in the unfamiliar.
The Arts Council of Henderson County is also hosting a 2024 Raffle, featuring numerous pieces donated by participating artists. Attendees can view raffle items at a designated tent and purchase tickets for $5 each. Winners will be announced on Sunday evening.
The festival is free and open to the public, offering a family-friendly atmosphere. Children can pick up goody bags at the welcome tables, where maps and additional information will also be provided. Please note that pets are not allowed in the event area, so plan to leave your furry friends at home.
