An art teacher at a Kendriya Vidyalaya in Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu, has been arrested for sexually harassing multiple girl students. The accused, identified as Ramachandra Soni, was apprehended on Wednesday following a complaint from a Class VIII student who reported the abuse to the school principal.
Soni was subsequently suspended by the school management and the incident was reported to the police. The district child protection unit officials filed a formal complaint with the Nagercoil all women police, leading to an investigation into the allegations.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Soni had sexually harassed several girl students. Police booked Soni under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and arrested him.
According to sources, Soni has taught in various states throughout his career. The arrest highlights the ongoing issue of sexual abuse in educational institutions and underscores the importance of reporting such incidents. The police are continuing their investigation to ensure that all victims are identified and supported.
