A’s Break Losing Streak in Bronx with 2-0 Win over Yankees

The Oakland Athletics ended their eight-game losing streak Monday with a 2-0 victory over the New York Yankees in the Bronx.

After both teams’ starting pitchers matched each other with shutout ball for seven innings, Abraham Toro reached base on a fielding error by González leading off the ninth. Gelof then hit a two-run homer to give the A’s the lead.

Lucas Erceg and Mason Miller combined to throw two shutout innings in relief, with Miller striking out Anthony Volpe, Juan Soto, and Aaron Judge to secure the save.

The A’s had not won at the Yankees since 2021 and had been swept by the Cleveland Guardians in their previous series.

Meanwhile, the Yankees were without manager Aaron Boone, who was ejected in the first inning after a fan’s remark behind the dugout. Boone questioned whether Esteury Ruiz swung at a pitch, and Hunter Wendelstedt ejected him after a fan yelled at the umpire.

Judge went 0 for 4 with a pair of strikeouts and a double-play grounder, dropping his average to .174.
