Asda shoppers have expressed disappointment after the supermarket announced changes to its Blue Light Card rewards scheme. Effective April 25, 2024, at 8am, Blue Light Card holders will receive a reduced 5% off fresh food purchases, including meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, juices, smoothies, dairy, and bakery products. This adjustment has sparked frustration among Blue Light Card holders, who previously received 10% off these items.
Shoppers took to social media to voice their displeasure. One Facebook user commented: “I’ll be returning to Aldi because of this.” Another said: “It’s not worth my time in Asda.” However, not all responses were negative. Some shoppers expressed gratitude for the scheme, recognizing that it still provides benefits. One user remarked: “Grateful for any cash pot I receive it is a great gesture Asda do, not an entitlement.” Another added: “It was never gonna last forever.”
Despite the reduction, Blue Light Card holders can still access exclusive Asda Rewards propositions, including a competition where they can win up to £100 in their Cashpots every day they shop and spend £5 until May 27, 2024. To be eligible for the Blue Light Card, individuals must be in an emergency service or key worker role and provide proof of employment.
Asda is the only major UK supermarket to offer these benefits to Blue Light Card holders. The Blue Light Discount program is available to a range of professions, including police officers, firefighters, healthcare workers, and many more.
