Asda’s Gnome-Sized Christmas Market Enchants London’s Southbank

Londoners were treated to a delightful surprise this past weekend as the festive season kicked off on London’s Southbank with a charming miniature Christmas market. Inspired by Asda’s recent Christmas advert featuring the adorable tagline ‘The Gnome of Christmas,’ the market’s enchanting stalls appeared overnight, each designed to be gnome-height.

David Hills, Asda’s chief customer officer, shared his excitement about the market, stating, “It’s been fantastic to see the response to our Christmas campaign. We’re thrilled that the nation seems to be falling in love with our gnomes, so what better way to celebrate than to bring some playful Christmas cheer to London with our gnome-sized market.”

Despite their small size, the miniature market stalls are packed with festive charm and surprises. Visitors can explore the tiny shops, sampling complimentary Christmas treats while having the opportunity to win a special Christmas gnome along with a bag overflowing with seasonal goodies.

The market, open on November 7th and 8th, features five mini stalls, each tailored to the personality and passions of one of the gnome characters from Asda’s ad: Max, Gnibbles, Gnorma, Gnicky, and Gnarla. Max, the head gnome, presides over the ‘Magical Mince Pie’ stall, while meticulous party planner Gnorma runs the ‘Glorious Grazing’ stall, offering a delectable array of festive treats. Meanwhile, surfer enthusiast Gnarla manages the ‘Festive Afternoon Sea’ stall, adorned with a variety of lavish fish canapes.

The market stands at a whimsical 3.5 feet tall, offering a unique and interactive experience for visitors. As David Hills mentioned, “Visitors will not only get the chance to be up, close and personal with our pint-sized heroes, they’ll also get to sample some of the incredible products which make up our Christmas range in a really fun and unique way.” The gnome-sized Christmas market is a testament to Asda’s commitment to bringing festive joy to the community.
