Asha Sobhana Credits WPL and RCB for India Debut and Success

Asha Sobhana, the 33-year-old Indian leg-spinner, has attributed her recent success and international debut to the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Sobhana was an instrumental part of the RCB team that won the inaugural WPL in March, and she has since gone on to make her debut for India in both white-ball formats.

Sobhana, speaking ahead of the second ODI against South Africa, highlighted the significant impact of the WPL and RCB on her career. She expressed that her journey to the international stage was not easy, and the experience of playing in packed stadiums during the WPL, provided by RCB, was invaluable.

The Chinnaswamy Stadium, where she marked her ODI debut with a remarkable four-wicket haul (4/21), holds a special place in her heart. Sobhana has had a successful track record at the stadium, dating back to her under-19 days. She believes the stadium has always been an advantage for her bowling.

Sobhana’s journey from the WPL to international cricket serves as a testament to the impact of the tournament in unearthing and nurturing talent. Her success is a strong indicator of the growing potential of women’s cricket in India and the role the WPL plays in fostering this growth.
