Assassin’s Creed: Shadows – New Trailer Sparks Controversy

The release date for Assassin’s Creed: Shadows is rapidly approaching, set for November 15th. To build anticipation, Ubisoft unveiled a new trailer on the official PlayStation YouTube channel, showcasing the game’s captivating world set in Feudal Japan. The trailer proudly boasts that all footage was captured on either a PS5 or PC, highlighting its impressive graphical fidelity.

The trailer promises a vast open world similar in scope to previous titles like Valhalla and Odyssey, but with the intriguing twist of two playable characters. However, the trailer’s reception has been anything but enthusiastic. At the time of writing, it has garnered over 54,000 views, but with a staggering 5,800 dislikes compared to only 3,000 likes. The criticism stems primarily from concerns about the animation quality, which many viewers perceive as choppy and unfinished. One particularly egregious example, at 0.33 seconds into the video, shows the horse seemingly ice skating across the ground.

Further adding to the discontent, Ubisoft has yet to showcase any gameplay footage for Shadows despite pre-orders being open. This lack of gameplay demonstration has fueled speculation and disappointment among fans, prompting comments like “Release in two months. Still little to no gameplay shown. Says a lot.”

On the other hand, Ubisoft has taken to their blog to defend the game’s visual prowess, claiming Shadows will be the most visually stunning Assassin’s Creed installment yet. The developers boast of advancements like rescaled world ratios for realism, the implementation of ray-tracing global illumination, and the utilization of micro-polygon technology.

However, without concrete gameplay footage, it remains difficult to gauge the actual visual improvement and performance of Shadows compared to its predecessors. Moreover, concerns are growing that Ubisoft may have prioritized dazzling graphics over smooth animations and overall performance. Only time will tell if Shadows delivers on its promises and silences the critics.
