Mould growth on silicone sealants is a common problem in UK homes, particularly in bathrooms and kitchens. While silicone is water-resistant, it can still succumb to mould in damp environments. One homeowner, seeking advice on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips and Tricks Facebook page, lamented about black mould appearing behind the silicone sealant on her shower glass screen. She had tried bleach overnight, but it only worsened the problem. This is because bleach merely bleaches the colour of the mould, not killing it. It can even encourage the mould to grow deeper and stronger.
Instead of bleach, Mrs Hinch fans recommended Astonish Mould and Milder Blaster. One user shared a picture of the product and claimed to swear by it. Another user reported that it works like magic, requiring no scrubbing or soaking. Simply spray the affected area, leave it on for as long as desired, and then rinse with the shower. The mould disappears completely.
