AstraZeneca, the pharmaceutical giant, has acknowledged that its Covid-19 vaccine has the potential to cause a rare side effect known as Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (TTS). This admission was made within court documents, marking the first time since the vaccine’s rollout. The company, which collaborated with the University of Oxford in developing the vaccine, is currently facing a class-action lawsuit. The lawsuit alleges that the vaccine has caused fatalities and severe injuries among recipients.
Jamie Scott, a father of two, initiated a lawsuit last year after developing a blood clot that rendered him unable to work. Reports indicate that he sustained a permanent brain injury following his vaccination in April 2021. According to the report, the High Court has received a total of fifty-one cases, with victims and bereaved family members seeking damages that could reach £100 million.
In May 2023, the company informed Scott’s lawyers that it did not acknowledge TTS as a general side effect of the vaccine. However, in a legal document submitted to the High Court in February, AstraZeneca stated, “It is admitted that the AZ vaccine can, in very rare cases, cause TTS. The causal mechanism is not known.”
Kate, Scott’s wife, commented on the situation, saying, “The medical community has long recognized that vaccine-induced immune thrombocytopenia and thrombosis (VITT) are caused by the vaccine.” She highlighted the lengthy three-year wait for the admission and demanded an apology, fair compensation for her family and others affected, and emphasized, “We have the truth on our side, and we will not give up.”
AstraZeneca had also partnered with Serum Institute of India (SII), the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer, to provide the vaccine to the Indian Government.
