Asus has updated its warranty terms for the ROG Ally, extending the warranty period for the MicroSD reader from 12 to 24 months. This move comes after Asus previously acknowledged issues with the MicroSD card reader on some ROG Ally units, particularly related to thermal stress. The extended warranty is intended to provide affected users with more time to get adequate support should they need it.
Asus has stated that a small number of SD card readers in the ROG Ally (2023) RC71L may not perform as expected. The company is therefore extending the warranty on the SD card reader from twelve to twenty-four months. Asus will also reimburse users for SD cards damaged by the SD card reader if they send the card(s) to Asus along with proof of purchase when they return their Ally for RMA service.
It’s important to note that the extended warranty period is only available for US customers. Additionally, an RMA might not fix the suspected hardware fault, meaning that a replacement device may be prone to failure in the same way over time.
Asus is expected to launch a new iteration of the ROG Ally in 2024, and it’s possible that one of the first big design changes the company makes will be the design of its MicroSD reader.
