Asus ROG Swift PG27AQDP: A 480Hz OLED Gaming Monitor at a Shockingly Low Price

Asus is finally sharing more details about its upcoming ROG Swift PG27AQDP, a gaming monitor that looks poised to become a top contender among the best gaming monitors. We first caught a glimpse of this monitor at the beginning of the year, where it stood out as the very first OLED monitor to achieve a remarkable 480Hz refresh rate at 1440p resolution. Since its initial reveal, Asus remained relatively quiet about the display—until now.

The PG27AQDP officially debuted at Gamescom, and it’s arriving at an incredibly low price of $1,000. While that might not seem cheap for a gaming monitor, or even an OLED monitor, it’s significantly lower than its competitors. The Acer Predator X27U F3, which shares the same specifications as Asus’ display and is expected to launch soon, could cost as much as $1,600, according to Acer. It’s possible that Acer might adjust its pricing in light of the PG27AQDP’s release. Regardless, the fact that Asus is leading in terms of price is quite surprising. We’ve seen monitors like the MSI MPG 321URX undercut the competition, but Asus traditionally focuses on a premium class of gaming monitors.

The PG27AQDP doesn’t sacrifice quality to achieve a more affordable price; it maintains the same premium ROG design we’ve seen in monitors like the ROG PG32UCDM. Asus is utilizing a WOLED panel from LG Display, and they claim the monitor can reach a peak brightness of 1,300 nits. Given that Asus has already achieved the brightest OLED we’ve tested with the ROG Swift PG34WCDM, a peak brightness of 1,300 nits is not unrealistic. Since it’s an OLED panel, the display theoretically boasts infinite contrast and a blazing fast response time of 0.03ms.

The PG27AQDP also introduces Asus’ new OLED Care+, a suite of burn-in prevention features that will be implemented across all of Asus’ OLED monitors. These features include pixel cleaning, a screen saver, pixel shifting, logo brightness adjustment, taskbar detection, border detection, and global dimming detection, all accessible through Asus’ Display Widget Center. For the unfamiliar, Display Widget Center allows you to control your monitor’s on-screen display using your keyboard and mouse.

Although Asus hasn’t revealed a firm release date for the PG27AQDP, they have confirmed that it’s launching soon. It’s expected to be available within the next few months, possibly in late September or early October. With its impressive specifications and surprisingly affordable price tag, the PG27AQDP is definitely a monitor to keep an eye on.
