Audio-Technica Unveils New Budget-Friendly Turntables: The AT-LP70X and LP70XBT

Audio-Technica, a popular choice for vinyl newcomers, has expanded its lineup with the introduction of two budget-friendly, entry-level turntables: the $200 AT-LP70X and its Bluetooth-enabled counterpart, the $250 LP70XBT. Both models are fully automatic, belt-driven turntables, designed for easy use right out of the box. They feature pre-mounted tonearms and cartridges, requiring only the connection of the provided RCA cables to your chosen speakers or audio output. Simply place a record, press the auto-start button, and enjoy.

The AT-LP70X and LP70XBT are capable of playing both 7- and 12-inch records with the auto-play feature, supporting 33 1/3 and 45 RPM speeds. Additionally, both turntables include a built-in, switchable phono preamp, allowing for connection to various audio sources, including powered speakers, AV receivers, or integrated amplifiers, regardless of whether they have a dedicated phono input or an AUX input. The Bluetooth model, LP70XBT, further enhances its versatility by pairing with Bluetooth speakers or headphones, delivering high-quality audio thanks to its support for the aptX Adaptive codec.

What distinguishes the LP70X models from their popular LP60X sibling is the incorporation of a higher-quality, conical, Moving Magnet VM95C cartridge. Audio-Technica claims this cartridge delivers “excellent channel separation and low distortion for outstanding tonal quality.” Notably, this cartridge allows for stylus upgrades using any of the offerings from AT’s VM95 Series range, catering to vinyl enthusiasts who wish to experiment with different sonic characteristics.

Beyond the cartridge upgrade, the LP70X turntables feature a new J-shaped tonearm, designed to minimize tracking errors. They also boast a new three-piece, anti-resonance chassis, which helps reduce resonance for even quieter playback. The LP70X models also upgrade from the LP60X’s 3.5mm-to-RCA cables to a true dual RCA-to-RCA cable with a ground wire and a grounding post on the turntable’s body, further reducing hum.

Available in Black/Gray, Black/Bronze, and White/Silver color options, the LP70X and LP70XBT are priced at $200 and $250, respectively. Both models are currently available at major retailers and on the Audio-Technica website.
