– Austin Habitat for Humanity has been chosen to host the prestigious 2025 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project, Habitat for Humanity International announced today. The news was shared with a symbolic passing of the hammer during the closing ceremony of this year’s Carter Work Project in St. Paul, Minnesota. This exciting announcement marks a significant milestone for Austin Habitat, coinciding with their 40th anniversary of providing homeownership opportunities to thousands of families in Central Texas.Michele Anderson, CEO of Austin Habitat for Humanity, expressed her enthusiasm about the upcoming event, stating, “It’s an honor to be the host city in 2025 and bring attention to the affordable housing challenges faced by many hard-working Central Texans.” The week-long project will serve as a platform to raise awareness about the critical need for affordable housing in the region.
The 2024 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project in St. Paul, Minnesota, brought together over 2,000 volunteers from around the world, who collaborated to build 30 homes at The Heights, a revitalized community on the city’s East Side. This innovative project prioritizes affordable housing, community connectivity, and outdoor amenities for residents.
Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International, emphasized the inspiring nature of the Carter Work Project, saying, “The week was truly inspiring as people from all walks of life came together to build homes and honor the Carters’ legacy.” He expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received in St. Paul and extended the invitation to build more affordable homes in Austin next year.
