Australia’s cricket captain, Pat Cummins, has voiced the need for a dedicated window for Test matches to avoid conflicts with lucrative franchise leagues such as the Indian Premier League (IPL). He believes that a clear schedule would help players, particularly those who participate in franchise leagues, better manage their commitments and preparation.
Cummins, who acknowledges the financial allure of franchise cricket, emphasized the importance of a balanced approach. He suggests that dedicated windows for both IPL and Test matches would simplify decision-making for players, allowing them to prioritize their involvement in both formats without compromising their performance.
Australia faces a potential clash in 2025 with the World Test Championship final scheduled in June, immediately following the IPL. This highlights the ongoing tension between international and franchise cricket schedules.
Cricket Australia Chairman, Mike Bird, echoed Cummins’ concerns, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the sustainability of Test cricket.
