Australia is gearing up for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics and Paralympics by launching a massive talent search to unearth the next generation of sporting heroes. The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), in collaboration with state sports institutes, over 40 sports, and Paralympics Australia, has unveiled the ‘Future Green and Gold’ program, designed to identify and nurture emerging talent.
This initiative offers an unparalleled opportunity for Australians aged 13 to 23 with Olympic aspirations, and anyone over 13 aiming for the Paralympics. No prior sporting experience is required, and athletes looking to transition from other sports are encouraged to participate.
Annette Eastwood of the AIS emphasizes the program’s inclusivity: “This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for people that could lead to representing Australia on the world stage. We are looking for a wide range of skillsets so I encourage all eligible Australians with Olympic or Paralympic dreams to come and give it a go.”
Australia has a rich Olympic history, achieving a third-place finish on the medals table at the 1956 Melbourne Games and a fourth-place finish at the 2000 Sydney Games. The country’s recent performance at the Paris Olympics, where they achieved their most successful Summer Games with 18 gold and 53 total medals, has ignited a new wave of enthusiasm for Olympic sports.
The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) wholeheartedly supports the ‘Future Green and Gold’ campaign. “The success of the home team is vital to the success of any home Games,” states AOC chief executive Matt Carroll. “Many Olympians began their athletic journey in different sports, before finding and excelling in their Olympic passion. Fresh off the success of our team in Paris, many young Australians will be inspired to have a go at Olympic sports to chase their own Brisbane Olympic dream.”
