Austrian Airlines has welcomed its second Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, registered as OE-LPM, to its fleet. The aircraft arrived in Vienna on Thursday, June 20th, receiving a water salute at Vienna Airport. Following its livery application in Teruel, Spain, the aircraft is now ready to join the Austrian Airlines fleet in its distinctive red, white, and red colors.
This arrival comes just days after the first Boeing 787-9, registered as OE-LPL, commenced long-haul service for Austrian Airlines, operating its inaugural flight to New York on June 15th. The newly arrived OE-LPM will initially operate on short-haul routes, primarily serving cities like Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, and Berlin. However, it will make its long-haul debut on June 28th with its first intercontinental flight to Chicago.
The introduction of the new Boeing 787-9 signifies a major milestone for Austrian Airlines, as it marks the beginning of the airline’s fleet modernization and expansion of its long-haul capabilities. Alongside the first two Boeing 787-9s, nine more are scheduled to join the fleet by 2028, gradually replacing the existing Boeing 777 and 767 aircraft. This integration of eleven Boeing 787-9s over the next four years is crucial for Austria’s aviation industry and the Vienna hub.
With the arrival of the new Dreamliner, Austrian Airlines will offer one of the most innovative long-haul aircraft on the market. Passengers can enjoy exceptional onboard comfort, blending Austrian hospitality with a new and innovative travel experience. The Boeing 787 also provides in-flight internet for long-haul flights. Furthermore, passengers can indulge in culinary delights with the “Tastefully Austrian” long-haul menu concept. Business Class passengers will experience exceptional dining with Flying Chefs from Do & Co and the “Viennese coffee house service on board,” while Premium Economy and Economy class passengers can choose from a variety of menus.
