Federal Prison Officials Seize Over $312,000 Worth of Contraband at Warkworth Institution

In a recent operation spanning from April 26 to May 20, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) staff members at Warkworth Institution, a medium-security federal prison in Campbellford, Ontario, seized an estimated $312,365 worth of contraband. The confiscated items included:

Tobacco

Marijuana

Shatter (Cannabis Concentrate)

Crystal Methamphetamine

Edged Weapons

Cellphone

The prison, located in Trent Hills municipality, southeast of Peterborough, employs a range of tools to prevent drug trafficking into its facilities. These measures include employing ion scanners and detector dogs to search buildings, personal belongings, inmates, and visitors.

According to a previous public report, a drone was used to drop illicit items onto prison grounds in February. The CSC emphasizes its commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff, visitors, and inmates. It has implemented stricter measures to deter the introduction of contraband and unauthorized items into its institutions.

The CSC collaborates with law enforcement agencies to prosecute individuals attempting to smuggle contraband into correctional facilities. For reporting suspicious activities related to prison security, the CSC operates a toll-free telephone tip line at 1-866-780-3784.
