Former attorney Michael Avenatti has unexpectedly defended former President Trump in the hush money case against him, arguing that it is politically motivated to prevent Trump from retaking the presidency in November.
Avenatti, who once represented Trump’s accuser Stormy Daniels, told Fox News Digital while in prison that he sees Trump as ‘a victim of the system.’ He added that the four separate criminal cases against Trump are ‘absolute overkill’ and ‘deeply disturbing.’
Avenatti claims that the prosecutors involved in the cases have personal motivations to gain prominence and that the question of Trump’s presidency should be ‘settled at the ballot box.’ He has even been in contact with Trump’s legal defense team about potentially testifying in the hush money trial and has stated that he would tell the truth if called to the stand.
