Axel Schmidt has assumed the role of Head of Corporate Communications at Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg (BER Airport) GmbH. His responsibilities now include overseeing location marketing, PR, event and content management, employer branding, social media, internal communication, and partner and sustainability communication.
Schmidt’s background in communications management is extensive, with 18 years of experience at various companies and agencies. From 2019 to 2022, he led PR and Social Media at ImmoScout24, developing regular market analyses and online formats like the “Wohnen Weiter Denken” debate platform. In early 2023, he transitioned to Scout24, an MDAX-listed company, where he headed external and internal corporate and financial communications.
Prior to his roles at ImmoScout24 and Scout24, Schmidt worked as an account director at the Berlin agency Zucker.Kommunikation, managing accounts for Amazon Germany and E.ON’s digital products. He also handled accounts for Turkish Airways, the Croatian National Tourist Board, and the German Federal Ministry of Health’s digital presence at mc Group agency.
Schmidt’s career began in 2006 at Frogster Interactive AG, where he built and coordinated a global PR team. From 2012, he managed event and content management, direct marketing/CRM, employer branding, and corporate social responsibility at Gameforge and GameDuell.
Schmidt holds a degree in media studies and completed a training program in methodical public relations at the German Institute for Public Relations (DIPR). He studied political science, modern history, and literature in Bonn and Hamburg.
