Axine Water Technologies Sells First Commercial-Scale PFAS Destruction System to Lacks Enterprises

Axine Water Technologies, a leader in electrochemical oxidation for wastewater treatment, has achieved a major milestone in its mission to combat PFAS contamination. The company has announced the sale of its first commercial-scale system for PFAS destruction to Lacks Enterprises Inc., a prominent automotive component manufacturer based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This marks a significant step towards a cleaner and safer environment, particularly with the growing concern surrounding PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals.”

The technology behind this breakthrough is Axine’s electraCLEARTM system. This innovative solution uses a series of electrochemical reactions to effectively break down PFAS compounds, achieving a remarkable 99.9% to 99.999% destruction rate. This includes the removal of all six EPA-regulated forms of PFAS, even the hazardous PFOA and PFOS compounds. The need for effective PFAS destruction is becoming increasingly urgent as the EPA implements stricter regulations surrounding these compounds. This partnership between Axine and Lacks exemplifies a proactive approach to tackling this environmental challenge.

The journey to this successful sale began in early 2023 with a pilot study at a Lacks facility in Grand Rapids. Rigorous laboratory testing demonstrated over 99.98% destruction of PFAS compounds in concentrated wastewater samples. This initial success, coupled with Lacks’ independent efforts in developing unique concentration systems since 2020, paved the way for a pilot testing phase in early 2024. A fully containerized electraCLEAR pilot unit was deployed on-site, exceeding expectations and consistently achieving the targeted destruction rates for all PFAS and precursor compounds.

Building on this impressive track record, Axine is proud to announce the sale of its first commercial-scale PFAS destruction system to Lacks Enterprises. “This achievement validates our capabilities in destroying PFAS,” said Mark Ralph, CEO of Axine Water Technologies. “Our electraCLEAR technology offers a safe, cost-effective solution for industrial facilities aiming to meet stringent environmental regulations while maintaining productivity in their manufacturing process. The Lacks engineering and management teams have been exceptional partners, and we look forward to working with them over the coming years.”

Nick Hrnyak, CEO of Lacks Enterprises, echoed this sentiment, stating, “Regulatory limits on PFAS in drinking water and its designation as potentially hazardous waste are driving many industries to seek solutions for PFAS management and destruction. We’re very excited to work with Axine on this important project.”

The first phase of the new electraCLEAR PFAS destruction system is scheduled for delivery by the end of 2024, with plans for additional systems to be installed at other Lacks facilities in the future. This expansion reflects the strong confidence both Axine and Lacks have in the electraCLEAR technology’s positive impact on the industry.
