Azerbaijan Enchants Chinese Travelers with Roadshow Success

The Azerbaijan Tourism Board (ATB) has successfully concluded a dynamic roadshow across four major Chinese cities – Shenzhen, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Beijing – from September 18 to 24, 2024. This initiative, a testament to ATB’s commitment to the Chinese market, served as a platform for fostering relationships with key stakeholders and promoting Azerbaijan’s diverse tourist attractions to potential Chinese travelers.

The roadshow commenced in Shenzhen on September 18th, followed by stops in Shanghai on September 20th, Chengdu on September 23rd, and concluding in Beijing on September 24th. Each event featured a series of strategic B2B meetings, connecting nearly 300 travel agencies and prominent figures from the Chinese travel trade with key Azerbaijani tourism partners. These partners included Azerbaijan Airlines, various international and local hotel brands, and top Destination Management Companies active in the Chinese market.

Through compelling presentations and captivating destination videos, Azerbaijan showcased its diverse appeal for both leisure and business travelers. The sessions delved into the country’s rich cultural heritage, emphasizing historical sites like UNESCO World Heritage Sites and locations connected to the legendary Silk Road. Azerbaijan also highlighted its modern amenities, including high-end shopping, world-class golf courses, and an array of restaurants offering both local and Chinese culinary delights.

Furthermore, the roadshow shed light on Azerbaijan’s burgeoning wine tourism sector. As a historic wine-producing region, Azerbaijan invites wine enthusiasts to explore its distinct vineyards, sample local varietals like Madrasa, Bayan Shira, and Shirvanshahi, and enjoy memorable wine tasting experiences accompanied by local cuisine and scenic vineyard vistas.

For wellness enthusiasts, Azerbaijan offers tranquil retreats at renowned wellness resorts equipped with rejuvenating spas and soothing hot springs. Recognized by international bodies like the Council of Europe and the European Institute of Cultural Routes, Azerbaijan provides a captivating blend of cultural immersion, historical exploration, and modern experiences, making it an ideal destination for Chinese travelers.

This roadshow underscores the growing appeal of Azerbaijan to Chinese tourists. The country’s strategic location, convenient air travel, and visa-free entry policy valid through July 2025, allowing for multiple entries, have significantly contributed to the surge in Chinese visitor arrivals. In the first eight months of 2024 alone, over 26,000 Chinese tourists visited Azerbaijan, marking a new record.

The ATB’s ongoing marketing efforts are robust, encompassing both B2B and B2C segments, and are supported by a dedicated office in China. Recent activities include B2B workshops, familiarization trips in collaboration with airlines, and promotional campaigns on popular platforms like Qyer and Trip.com.

The roadshow’s success further strengthens Azerbaijan’s position as a captivating destination for Chinese travelers. It’s a testament to the country’s diverse offerings, strategic location, and ongoing efforts to attract visitors from around the globe.
