The Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk-starrer ‘Bad Newz’ hit the theatres on July 19th and garnered a decent ₹8.50 crore net in India on its opening day, according to Sacnilk.com. The film, which generated considerable buzz following the release of the song ‘Tauba Tauba’, saw its highest occupancy rates in Chennai with 54.50 percent, followed by Jaipur with 31.25 percent. Other cities like Bengaluru, Bhopal, NCR, and Mumbai witnessed occupancy rates of 28 percent, 25.75 percent, 26 percent, and 20.75 percent respectively.
While the film has received mixed reviews, its box office performance over the weekend will be crucial. Sacnilk.com predicts a significant drop in collections on Day 2, estimating a mere ₹0.7 crore.
Directed by Anand Tiwari, ‘Bad Newz’ features Neha Dhupia and includes special cameos from Ananya Panday and Neha Sharma. The comedy-drama offers a refreshing take on the usual rom-com tropes by exploring the chaotic world of heteropaternal superfecundation, a more intricate way of saying ‘two dads, one mom’.
Despite the mixed reviews, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh lauded the film as a fun-tastic and well-crafted entertainer that delivers non-stop entertainment. Taking to X, he praised the film’s smart and riveting screenwriting, ensuring that the comic moments and jokes land well, and the writing doesn’t meander into unwanted tracks. He also highlighted Vicky Kaushal’s exceptional performance, especially in emotional sequences, and applauded Triptii Dimri’s captivating presence and the much-needed glamour she brings to the proceedings. Ammy Virk’s comic timing, particularly in the comedic sequences, was also praised, adding credibility to his character. Adarsh, however, pointed out that Neha Dhupia and Sheeba Chaddha were underutilized and could have enhanced the film if given more prominence.
