Baldur’s Gate 3, a critically acclaimed and commercially successful RPG, has taken the gaming world by storm. However, despite its popularity, fans of the Nintendo Switch are unlikely to see the game on their console anytime soon. Larian Studios, the game’s developer, has stated they are moving on to new projects and have no plans to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to the Switch.
In an interview with IGN, Swen Vincke, the game’s director, confirmed that the team is focused on new projects, stating, “We’re going to shift around and we’re going to start doing these other things that we talked about, that we planned on doing before we started on BG3. Those were always the plans for afterward, we have two games that we want to make, and we have lots of concepts. So let’s just have closure on BG3. It’s been great. We’ve done our job. It’s a story with a beginning, a middle, and an end. So let’s pass the torch to another studio to pick up this incredible legacy.”
These comments suggest a definite end to Larian’s involvement with Baldur’s Gate 3, which makes a Switch port unlikely. The game’s resource-intensive nature further complicates the situation. The Nintendo Switch’s hardware capabilities could potentially struggle to run Baldur’s Gate 3 smoothly, requiring compromises to image quality and performance. With the next-generation Switch on the horizon, a port might be more feasible for the future console.
While a Switch port for Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently off the table, fans of classic RPGs can still enjoy a wealth of options on the platform. Games like the original Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II are available on the Switch, offering a taste of the iconic franchise. For those who want to experience the latest Baldur’s Gate 3, it remains available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
