I Ketut Sena, a valued member of the Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan since 2000, has been appointed as the resort’s new Resort Manager. This marks a significant milestone as Sena becomes the first native Balinese to hold this prestigious position. His journey from a small village in Ubud to leading this award-winning resort is a testament to his dedication and passion for hospitality.
Sena’s career spans over 33 years, with extensive experience at the Grand Hyatt Bali and Four Seasons. His deep understanding of the resort’s operations and unwavering commitment to preserving Bali’s rich cultural heritage make him an ideal leader. Sena’s vision for the resort is rooted in sharing the authentic beauty of Bali with guests from around the world.
“It’s a privilege to hold this position,” says Sena, with his characteristic humility. “Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan has been part of my life for more than two decades. It’s an extraordinary resort that honours the culture of Bali and touches all who visit. From signature experiences such as visits to meet local farmers, to our Pilgrim Temple Voyage, Balinese cooking, dance and arts classes, and immersive wellness experiences, we are dedicated to offering a deep connection to the authentic soul and traditions of this magical island.”
Sena’s childhood in the serene village of Tebongkang, near Ubud, played a pivotal role in shaping his passion for hospitality. Despite its proximity to a bustling tourist hub, Tebongkang remained a tranquil village steeped in culture and tradition, with farming as the primary livelihood. Sena’s interactions with tourists who were fascinated by his way of life ignited his dream of sharing meaningful experiences with people from all over the world.
Sena’s dedication to his craft has been evident throughout his career at Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan. He has excelled across various departments, including Housekeeping, Front Office, Security, and Rooms Operations, earning recognition for his outstanding management, emotional intelligence, and leadership skills. He played a crucial role in several key projects, including the resort’s 2013 refurbishment and the introduction of popular activities like the Jungle Biathlon, Cycling Tours, Rafting on Bali’s Longest River, and the “Can You Keep A Secret” Tour.
In his new role, Sena will oversee more than 300 employees, manage the resort’s award-winning accommodations, dining outlets, and facilities, and ensure a memorable experience for over 73,000 guests annually. He plans to further immerse guests in Balinese traditions through temple and art gallery tours, and the upcoming launch of a new Sacred River Spa menu.
Beyond his professional achievements, Sena is dedicated to creating a supportive and caring work environment for his team. He believes in fostering open communication and sincerity, principles deeply ingrained in Balinese culture. “I’m passionate about creating a working environment that feels like a second home for all employees, fostering a supportive and caring atmosphere through open communication and sincerity,” he says. “By supporting every employee to feel good and deliver their very best, my team and I are dedicated to ensuring that our guests experience the true beauty of Bali – and make memories to last a lifetime.”
Under Sena’s leadership, the Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan is poised to introduce exciting new developments. The Riverside restaurant will unveil a new Mediterranean concept, offering al fresco “bistronomy” dining that celebrates the culinary treasures of Italy, Spain, France, Lebanon, and Greece. At Jati Bar, guests will enjoy Mixology Masterclasses with farm-to-glass cocktails made from the freshest homegrown fruits, botanicals, and herbs sourced from the resort’s gardens and neighboring farms, all against the stunning backdrop of rainforest and paddy fields. The resort’s commitment to sustainability and authentic Balinese experiences is set to reach new heights under Sena’s guidance.
