Bangladesh staged a remarkable fightback in the second Test against Pakistan, thanks to a brilliant century from Litton Das and a crucial knock of 78 from Mehidy Hasan Miraz. The duo overshadowed the impressive performance of Pakistan fast bowler Khurram Shahzad, who claimed a maiden five-wicket haul in the first session.
Shahzad had ripped through the Bangladesh top order, leaving them reeling at 26/6 inside the first hour of Day 3. However, Litton and Mehidy counterattacked with a crucial 165-run partnership that provided Bangladesh with a much-needed boost. Litton’s innings, laced with 13 fours and two sixes, was particularly impressive. He reached his century soon after Tea, further frustrating Pakistan by adding a crucial 69-run stand with the tailender Mahmud.
Despite a few missed opportunities in the field, Pakistan managed to restrict Bangladesh to 262. However, the fightback from Bangladesh was a significant blow to Pakistan’s hopes of winning the match.
In response, Pakistan lost two wickets in the final session, leaving them with a slender lead of 21 runs at stumps. Abdullah Shafique, who had a disappointing series so far, fell to Hasan Mahmud, while Shahzad was dismissed by the same bowler in the last over of the day.
The second Test, which is being played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, has seen its fair share of twists and turns. The first Test was washed out due to persistent rain, while the second Test has seen both teams fighting hard for every run. The match is poised to be a thrilling contest with both sides having their eyes on the prize.
