Bangladesh Member of Parliament (MP) Anwarul Azim, who had been missing since last week, was allegedly murdered in Kolkata on Wednesday, May 19th. Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, addressing a news conference in Dhaka, termed the incident a “planned murder.”
Initial investigations revealed that all the individuals involved in the killing are Bangladeshi nationals. The Bangladesh police have arrested three suspects in connection with the case, according to the Bangladeshi newspaper Daily Star.
The precise motive behind the murder is yet to be established. “We will soon inform you about the motive,” the minister said. He added that Indian police are actively cooperating in the investigation.
MP Anwarul Azim had arrived in India on May 12th. According to ANI, he was last seen on the afternoon of May 13th when he accompanied friends to a residence in Bidhannagar near Kolkata for a medical checkup. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance and subsequent murder are currently under investigation.
