Barrass to Contest One-Game Ban at Tribunal

West Coast Eagles defender Tom Barrass will contest his one-game ban for rough conduct at the tribunal on Wednesday.

The charge stems from a dangerous tackle on Fremantle’s Michael Walters during last weekend’s western derby. The incident was graded as careless with medium impact and high contact.

Speaking after West Coast’s 37-point upset win over Fremantle, Eagles coach Adam Simpson said he couldn’t resist making a “good guy” case for Barrass after Charlie Cameron’s contentious tribunal win last week.

Cameron had his one-match ban for a dangerous tackle downgraded to a fine last week, after leaning on the Lion’s “exemplary” record in its argument.

“I didn’t catch it all. I can’t really comment on it,” Simpson said of the Barrass incident. “But I hope he gets off. He’s a good guy.”

If the ban is upheld, Barrass will miss West Coast’s clash with the Suns at People First Stadium this Sunday. It comes after a tumultuous week for the tribunal, which saw Jesse Hogan escape suspension while Toby Greene’s ban was upheld.

The Barrass case is set to begin at 1pm (AEST) on Wednesday.
