Bath Massage Parlor Shut Down for Operating as Unlicensed ‘Adult Relaxation Spa’

A massage parlor in Bath, Maine, known as Xinye Spa, was ordered to shut down after an investigation revealed that it was operating as an unlicensed “adult relaxation spa” in a restricted downtown area. The Codes Enforcement Office discovered that Xinye Spa was offering pseudo-massage services without the proper licensing required by state law. This included employees rubbing oil on customers in a massage-like manner, even though they were not certified commercial massage therapists.

The spa’s operation sparked concerns among community members due to its location near the Neighborhood United Church of Christ and a residential building. Under Bath’s ordinances, adult businesses, which include pseudo-massage services, are prohibited from operating in proximity to churches and apartments. Following the complaints, the Codes Enforcement Office conducted an investigation and subsequently ordered the spa to close its doors on April 12th.

Xinye Spa has reportedly complied with the order and ceased operations. The City Manager, Marc Meyers, acknowledged the spa’s cooperation and communication with the enforcement office throughout the process. It is noteworthy that this is the first instance of the city enforcing its adult business regulations, which were established in 2013. Xinye Spa has not been reachable for comment.
