Bay Area Deputy Killed in Traffic Stop in Idaho
Ada County Deputy Tobin Bolter, 27, a former officer with the Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek police departments in California, was shot and killed on Saturday during a traffic stop in Boise, Idaho.
Bolter was approaching a 65-year-old driver’s window when he was shot. A witness called 911 and performed CPR on Bolter before an ambulance arrived. Bolter succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The suspect fled the scene but was later located by Boise police. After a standoff, the suspect exchanged gunfire with officers and was shot and killed. The suspect’s name has not been released, but authorities said he was wanted for arrest for a misdemeanor.
Bolter had joined the Ada County Sheriff’s Office in January after serving in law enforcement for seven years. He is the first sheriff’s deputy in Ada County to be killed in the line of duty.
Governor Brad Little ordered United States and Idaho flags to be lowered to half-staff in honor of Bolter.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers our law enforcement officers face while serving our communities. We extend our deepest condolences to Bolter’s family, friends, and colleagues.
