With the T20 World Cup approaching, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued an invitation for applications for the position of Head Coach for the Men’s Senior Cricket Team. Incumbent Head Coach Rahul Dravid must reapply if he intends to continue with the Rohit Sharma-led team after the ICC T20 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States and defending champions, the West Indies. According to a media advisory released by the BCCI, applications for the position should be submitted by 6 PM IST on May 27, 2024. “The selection process will consist of a thorough review of applications, followed by personal interviews and assessments of shortlisted candidates,” stated the BCCI in a statement. While Team India has initiated its search for a new Head Coach for the Men’s Cricket Team, the apex cricket board has kept the door open for Dravid. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah informed reporters in Mumbai that Dravid is eligible to reapply for the top position as his tenure concludes in June. “Rahul Dravid’s tenure is coming to an end,” stated Shah. “We will be inviting applications in the coming days. Rahul Dravid’s tenure is coming to an end. He will have to reapply if he wants to continue. We are looking for a long-term coach, for three years.” Dravid was granted an extension following the 2023 World Cup. Under Dravid’s guidance, Rohit and Co. reached the finals of the 50-over World Cup last year. “No Precedent for Different Coaches” BCCI Secretary Shah emphasized that the new appointment will be for a three-year term. “There is no precedent for different coaches for different formats in Indian cricket,” he added. “Moreover, we have a number of players who are all-format players. There are several common players across formats, such as Rishabh Pant, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma. Ultimately, this is the decision of the Cricket Advisory Committee.
