Quarterback Caleb Williams, expected to be the top pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, recently held a throwing session with two potential teammates: Keenan Allen and DJ Moore. During a charity event in Detroit, Williams discussed the possibility of adding Washington receiver Rome Odunze to the mix, who could be available when the Bears select ninth overall. Odunze expressed his enthusiasm for the prospect of joining forces with Williams and Allen, calling it ‘awesome.’ He also mentioned his admiration for Allen’s Hall of Fame-caliber career.
In an effort to bolster Williams’ support system, the Bears have made several acquisitions during the offseason, including Allen, center Ryan Bates, running back D’Andre Swift, and tight end Gerald Everett. Adding a receiver at No. 9 would further enhance the offense.
NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah believes Odunze would be a valuable addition to the Bears’ offense, stating that he would ‘not even wait’ to select him if he were available. Williams has also indicated his support for Odunze, along with Penn State tackle Olu Fashanu, his former high school teammate. However, it is unlikely that Harrison, another top receiver prospect, will be available at No. 9, as the Bears have already met with him.
The Bears may also consider drafting a defensive player, such as Alabama edge rusher Dallas Turner, who has expressed interest in playing alongside Montez Sweat. Jeremiah suggests that the Bears could potentially trade down to address their need for a defensive lineman or left tackle, but he would prioritize securing one of the top offensive players available.
Williams and Odunze initially met during the Huskies’ victory over the Trojans in November, and they have since bonded through the draft process. Williams expressed his admiration for Odunze, saying it would be an honor to work with him if the opportunity arises.
