Bechtel, a trusted engineering, construction, and project management partner, has commenced the groundbreaking of the Natrium Demonstration Project in collaboration with TerraPower. This project is part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program. The Natrium reactor, a significant leap forward in clean energy generation, will utilize sodium-based technology for cooling, enabling clean, baseload operation at 345 megawatts with the flexibility to reach 500 megawatts, providing sufficient energy to power 400,000 homes. Bechtel brings its extensive experience in nuclear energy, having designed, built, or provided construction services for 150 nuclear plants globally, contributing over 76,000 megawatts of new nuclear generation capacity worldwide. The Natrium Demonstration Project showcases TerraPower’s advanced nuclear technology alongside GE Hitachi’s expertise, representing a leap forward in sustainable power generation.
